The 2022/2023 season begins on Tuesday Sept. 13/22.
This year we resume play at our long term location of Salisbury Composite High School, in the large gym.

There are currently 59 evenings of play in the 2022/2023 season, 34 are on Tuesday, and 25 are on Thursday.

Full Membership = $120
Tuesday Only Membership = $70
Thursday Only Membership = $50.

May 27, 2022 - Last Night of the Season: Tuesday, May 31
Club attendance has dropped off sharply, so in light of the lack of interest (and in order to save money for next year) Tuesday, May 31 (at Salisbury) will be the last night of the 2021/2022 season.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and supported the club through the challenges of this past year, we hope to see everyone back in September. Returning players can expect the website schedule to be updated (and a corresponding email sent out) in August 2022.
Feb 28, 2022 - Return to Salisbury delayed...again...
Salisbury has pushed back our return again, this time to March 10. It's out of the club's control, but in any case we apologize for the inconvenience.
Feb 1, 2022 - Return to play at Southpointe and Salisbury
Starting Feb 1, we're starting play again at Southpointe in Fort Saskatchewan. All nights in February will be played at Southpointe (because Salisbury is unavailable).
March 1 is the first night we're now currently scheduled to play at Salisbury. Disappointing that this date keeps getting pushed back, but here's hoping this one sticks.
Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the courts.
Jan 6, 2022 - Club closure effective immediately for remainder of January
Excerpt from EIPS Facility Rentals email, January 6 10:09 AM:
"Elk Island Public Schools’ Facility Rentals has an important update regarding after-hours rentals. To maintain operational continuity and work towards minimizing disruption to our operations, external bookings will be cancelled as of today January 6th, 2022, for the remainder of the month. The commencement of external bookings will be under assessment.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please know that our priority is the health and safety of all students, staff and members of our community. Thank you for your support and understanding as we move through these challenging times."
Jan 4, 2022 - A few cancellations at SAL
There have been a few cancellations for Salisbury already, and on these dates we'll instead be playing at Southpointe in Fort Saskatchewan.
The dates that were at Salisbury, but are now at Southpointe are January 11, February 1, 8, 15, and 22.
In consequence, the first night at Salisbury will now be Thursday, January 13.
Hope to see you there, and for anyone whose membership situation is affected by these changes, we'll figure it out as we go.
Nov 29, 2021 - We're moving back to Salisbury!
Starting Tuesday, January 11, the club will be returning to the Large Gym at Salisbury Composite High School in Sherwood Park. The time slot will remain 8-10 pm on most Tuesdays and Thursdays. For evenings where Salisbury is unavailable, we'll play at Southpointe School in Fort Saskatchewan. (Please refer to the schedule.)
We understand that some of our players may have been counting on playing in Fort Saskatchewan for the remainder of the season, and that the move to Sherwood Park may be challenging for them. If this sounds like you, then please reach out to Brandon, either in person or at spbc.management@gmail.com, so we can find a solution that meets your specific needs and situation.
October 29, 2021 - Membership price set at $150
Full memberships for the 2021/2022 are $150. Half-memberships (Tues-only or Thurs-only) are $75.
Payments by cash or cheque; cheques can be made out to Sherwood Park Badminton Club. (Sorry, at this time we can't accept E-transfers.)
There are 66 nights of play in the 2021/2022 season. If the season is cancelled due to COVID then members will be refunded for the remaining nights of play.
September 18, 2021 (Update 3) - SPBC implements Restrictions Exemption Program
On September 17, EIPS announced that any group wishing to continue using their facilities must agree to follow the regulations specified in the Alberta Government's Restriction Exemption Program (link).
The SPBC has reviewed the program and has agreed to abide by the regulations within. This means that, effective immediately, all players will be required to provide:
A - Proof of vaccination:
A partial vaccination (one dose) will be accepted from September 20 to October 25, provided that date of vaccination was at least 2 weeks prior to the date of play.
Full vaccination (two doses) will be required after October 25.
OR
B - Proof of a privately-paid negative PCR or rapid test within 72 hours prior to date of play (tests from AHS or Alberta Precision Laboratories will not be accepted as proof)
OR
C - Documentation of a medical exemption
You will only need to show your proof of vaccination once, you won't need it every visit. See below for how to obtain your vaccination records.
In accordance with public health order 42-2021 (link) masking will also be required at all times by anyone who is not actively playing. If you're in the building and not on court, then you must wear a mask.
September 16, 2021 (Update 2) - We get to play tonight!
EIPS says that we are permitted to play at Southpointe School on Sept 16.
On Sept 20, EIPS will make another announcement regarding facility rentals. Information from that announcement will be posted here.
We look forward to seeing you on the courts tonight...the season might not last long so enjoy while we can!
September 16, 2021 (Update 1) - Alberta declares State of Public Health Emergency
Last night, Alberta declared a state of public health emergency. According to the "Restrictions Exemption Program" on the provincial website (source), it appears the club is allowed to stay open provided players are vaccinated (details below). We don't know if EIPS Facility Rentals will take the same approach. For now the club assumes we are still playing Thurs Sept 16, but that could change, even at the last minute - travel at your own risk!
From the Alberta Government Website:
The following restrictions apply unless the facility or program implements the restrictions exemption program:
Indoor group classes and activities are not permitted.
Indoor competitions are paused except where vaccine exemptions have been granted.
Indoor one-on-one training and solo activities are allowed with 3 metre physical distancing.
Outdoor activities can continue with no restrictions.
Businesses that implement the Restrictions Exemption Program can operate as usual if they only serve people (ages 12 and over) who have:
proof of vaccination:
single dose accepted between September 20 and October 25 if received 2 weeks before time of service.
double doses required after October 25
documentation of a medical exemption
proof of a privately-paid negative PCR or rapid test within 72 hours of service (tests from AHS or Alberta Precision Laboratories not allowed)
August 24, 2021 - Welcome Back!
Dear Player,
Welcome! The Sherwood Park Badminton Club is reopening for the 2021/2022 season. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the large gym at Salisbury Composite High School is unavailable this year. Instead, we will be playing out of Southpointe School in Fort Saskatchewan, 18 minutes north of Sherwood Park for the duration of the 2021/2022 season. While we regret and acknowledge the extended travel time this causes for our Sherwood Park and Edmonton players, we welcome the opportunity to showcase our sport to the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
Our #1 priority remains to provide an inclusive and quality badminton experience for our members and drop-ins. To that end, Southpointe School is a brand-new facility with 6-court gymnasium, high ceilings, and good court spacing. The K-9 designation means fewer evening school programs, which means more nights for our players. Put simply - at this time - Southpointe School is the best available facility in the area.
The first night of play is Tuesday, September 14 at 8pm - We look forward to seeing you on the courts!
